Childhood dream? I would have liked to join the Ghostbusters and make the world a safer place.
One sentence highlighting your current role: Being passionate about creating international accommodation brands, which stand out from the market’s standards at every level of communication, no matter if online, offline or within our properties.
What do you enjoy the most about the student housing and micro-living sector? Both are relatively new areas within the real estate sector, and I enjoy the sense of entrepreneurship as everybody is trying to shape this industry. It is also inspiring to create new concepts and brands and bring them to live. I feel rewarded when I see that what we have created as an idea on a piece of paper, becomes alive and gets appreciated by our customers.
Did you study or lived abroad and if so, where? Unfortunately, I didn’t study abroad. But due to my sport, I played American Football, I always had American coaches and teammates. As a teenager I made it to the German national team and we had training camps with pro’s from the NFL. Later I did some trips to the USA to play some US-college teams games with my home team. So I gained some experience abroad thanks to my involvement with American Football.
Where did you live as a student, and how different was the student accommodation landscape back then? I stayed with my parents’ in the beginning and was lucky to share an apartment with my girlfriend later on. Many of my fellow students stayed at public hall of residences, where rooms were small and equipped with just a bed, desk, cabinet and a sink. That means shared bathrooms, communal kitchens and a few, very small common areas, all furnished with stuff from the 60’s….purposed built student accommodation didn’t even exist at the time!
Tell us something we don’t know about you? I am a coffee addicted (in a positive way), as coffee offers one of the most complex sensory experiences of all the foods and beverages. Driven by that passion I started to roast and blend my own coffees. Generally speaking, don’t be satisfied with what the food industries offers, there is so much more flavor to discover…
Among the many projects we have in the pipelines, what are you most excited about? I am really looking forward to our European roll-out, as well as working on new ideas and concepts.
